What Is

Property Title Fraud?

  • Property title fraud occurs when someone obtains the title of your property (usually by stealing your identity) to change ownership on your property title from your name to theirs. The fraudster can then secure as many loans as possible using your equity as collateral.
  • In 2008, the FBI identified "house stealing" as the “latest scam on the block.” Since then, this terrifying scam has been on the rise all across the country. Many families don't find out they've become victims until a theif actually owns their home on paper, and has taken out huge loans against the property.
